Almost Home...

Today, the babies are 12 days old.  I talked to Dr today and it looks like both babies will be coming home together.  The day is still unknown maybe Friday, Sat. Sunday.  :)

Ella Clare weighs 5 lbs.  She is eating really well, up to 70cc.  We are still on 'brady' watch for her until Friday.

Jake weighs 3 lb 12 oz.  His 'light bulb' just came on and decided to bottle feed every meal.

We are both eating every 4 hours...fabulous!  Anyone think I can keep up with that schedule at home?

8 days old

Yay! We have turned a corner. Today, both babies moved to south hall nursery. This is a a step down nursery where they prepare for home.

Ella Clare: weighs 4#9oz. She is bottle feeding and/or nursing every meal. We are doing a car seat test with Ella Clare this afternoon. She will have to show that she can sit in the car seat for two hours...assuming she will have a two hour car ride home to MP. She might be released early next week.

Jake: weighs 3#9oz. He finally had a BM yesterday...cheers to that! Now, we will try to bottle feed or nurse him every meal. He also has his nose tube in case he decides he wants to sleep through a feeding. They took the IV out so no more poking him with needles. He won't be too far behind sister if she is released first.

Rules to leaving NIcU: 1. Show weight gain (both have lost but now gaining) 2. Bottle or nurse every meal (Ella Clare has proven this) 3. Be able to regulate temp (EC has proven this and Jake is close) 4. Car seat test-this is to make sure they can sit and breathe correctly for the car ride home

Hannah has been with uncle Keres and aunt Katie all week! I know she thinks she is on an extended vacation. She goes to tumbling, the park, the circus...so fun! She is headed to Dallas today with papaw. We have the weekend all planned out. Also, we get to celebrate daddy's bday tomorrow.

Now, I get to go baby shopping. Good thing about Dallas...there is lots of places to shop.

6 days old

Before a baby update...I wanted to give a mommy and daddy update. Our story is really unbelievable! It is amazing to me, too. I know it is very obvious to most that my mental state has been all over the place. The only way to describe how I have survived the past few months is the phrase 'tuck your head and go.' Luke and I have both been in a 'zone.' i know the end is near and we will have two new babies home very soon. also, without family and friends, we wouldn't have made it. Thank you will never be enough! Hannah has been shifted from one place to another and has been such a good girl considering all the changes.

I also want to mention that we appreciate everyones phone calls, texts, emails, visits, etc. Please know that if you don't get a return call, email, or text; we are not ignoring you. We are trying to keep up while trying to feed two babies throughout the day, rest, etc... It is all very surreal. We cant wait to be home and have a new routine.

Also, the babies can't have visitors in the nicu. I wish everyone could see them but, for now, we can only share pics. This is to prevent germs in the nursery.

Update on babies: Ella Clare is almost to her birthweight. She is nursing and eating from a bottle like a champ. Drs say she is an overachiever, wonder where she got that from? Also, she is having bradycardia. They have just taken her off of caffiene so she can correct on her own. Fives days after bradycardia, she can be released. Jake is bottle feeding a few meals and gerbagge (sp?) other feedings in his nose. He is a small fry and just learning everyday.

5 days old

The babies are having a really great day !  Ella Clare nursed really good and Jake is out from under the billirubin light.  Ella Clare is doing great and "ahead of schedule."  She is basically doing everything she could be doing in order to come home.  She is ready all except the brady cardia...where she forgets to breathe.  After a bradycardia episode, they wait for 5 days to release the baby.  So, the countdown begins.  Jake is perfect, he just needs to grow, learn to eat, and get more coordinated.  :)   Both are, now, gaining a little weight and able to regulate their own body temp.  We are enjoying them so much.  The nurses are fabulous and making everything easy on us.

Ella Clare is eating 25 CC.
Jake is eating 10 CC and taking fluids so he can have a BM.  :)

I can not post pics now bc of technology issues.  They are precious and I will share pics soon!

Thank you, Aunt Katie and uncle Keres, for keeping Han this week !  I know she is having a blast!  Much love to you!

Babies' birthday

We are so blessed to have two beautiful babies today!

Ella Clare Anderson, born February 10, 2011, 4:10pm
4lbs 11 oz.; 17 1/2 in

She was on cPap for 24 hrs, then oxygen in nose for a few hours. Sucking a pacifier 24 hours after birth and eating formula. We will nurse today for first time.

Jake Williams Anderson, born February 10, 2011, 4:20pm
3lbs 11oz.; 15 3/4 in

He was on breathing tube for 4 hours. Then began breathing room air. He started eating 24 hours after birth. We will also start nursing today.

Both in NICU but talking about moving to lower level nursery soon.

How is momma?
Good and healing fast. Delivery was smooth and fast, within 30 minutes total. I did not have a C- section,so I will be released on Saturday. We will stay close to babies until we all come home.

How are daddy and big sis?
Great and glowing today! Hannah was here for delivery but still has not seen babies. Maybe after NICU. Daddy is relieved and excited!

I will post pics soon! God is great!

End in sight

We had a growth sonogram today.  Babies looked great! Fluid and bloodflow were perfect.

Baby girl 4 lbs, 3 oz
Baby boy 3 lbs, 6 oz

Baby boy has always been a little smaller than baby girl.  However, they both look great ! The drs were not worried.

Baby boy profile and hand

Baby girl profile and hand. Docs says she has double chin!  GOOD...I hope so!

Much to my surprise, Dr. Magee, (high risk dr) did the sonogram.  Luke and I always ask a lot of questions. (We take up a lot of their time). Dr Magee has been very strict with my bed rest.  I was nervous to ask the hard questions like "Am I really dilated to a 5?" and "Can I go home next week?"  So, he saw Lukes Aggie ring and that seems to help in sticky situations!  Dr. made lots of comments about his daughters visiting Aggieland, he stated that Baylor Hospital Dallas is soon becoming the "teaching" hospital for A&M medicine...and he knows A&M is the best so we gained a little respect from him.  Then I said "whats the plan?"  He quickly said that I can go HOME at 34/35 weeks if my original OBGYN agrees.  :)   NOW, we have a plan!  Assuming that the babies and I remain stable with irregular contractions....we dont want regular contractions!    I feel really good about it!  I am thrilled to have an end in sight!  So, the earliest we would be home would be NEXT Friday, Feb 11, latest would be Monday, Feb 14.  I can be transferred by car.  :)  WOW, makes a big difference when you have some insight into your medical situation!  This can always change depending on the upcoming week.  Nonetheless, it is great news!

I must mention that my home doctors, Mason and Slovak, saved this baby girl and baby boy!  It means a lot to me for them to have the chance to deliver the babies! ( Of course, this can only happen if the babies are mature enough).  I think they are pretty pumped about it too.  If anyone ever says one bad thing about TRMC or Labor/Delivery...I will set the record straight.  We have two miracle doctors in MP.   Two EXTREMELY skilled OBs that impress these doctors in Dallas, DAILY...when I tell them what they did for me and my babies.

Like the babies....my belly has grown since Ive been here.  :)

33 weeks

33 weeks
I am relieved as you can tell by my post.  I will continue to update next week and hope for no changes.  Thank you all!  Much love, Tasa

33 weeks

I am still in hospital on bed rest. I am taking nifedipine for contractions every 6 hours and it seems to make a huge difference. I don't have many contractions which is good, I guess! The only reason they are keeping me here on bed rest is bc of the dilation. I personally don't think I am dilated to a 5 but who knows. On Friday, I will have a growth sonogram. They will measure the babies' and we should know an estimate weight. This will be super helpful! My belly has grown over the past two weeks. I know they are growing babies. I am monitored twice a day for babies' heartbeats and contractions. It is very difficult to get a good reading of two heart beats without one of them moving! They move all the time! On average, I am supposed to stay on the monitor for 20 min in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. However, we normally get half way through and baby girl will have hiccups or baby boy will get sick of being "tied" down. The nurses have learned to balance the monitor on baby boy and he does much better. He will probably not like to be swaddled, buckled in carseat...similar to Hannah. I am usually on monitor (3 belts around the belly, no moving) for about 40 minutes or more. I don't mind it if I can watch the Bachelor or American Idol.

I still have gestational diabetes. My blood sugars are always low, though. (they should be high if I had full blown gd). It took about 8 days to get menu in order and I think they have
it right now, finally. Also, luke or my visitors can bring me meals. I have had Cheesecake Factory, Campisis, Snuffers, chick fil a, and Pappadeux. I have probably gained 5 pounds just this week...which is OK as long as the babies have too.

We have a very tentative plan for the next few weeks. First, I want to get good results on the growth sonogram, then the docs will reevaluate me at 34 weeks which is next week. You never know which day they will reevaluate. They are on their own schedule here....for sure! In my opinion, once I am past 35 weeks, there is no reason to be in Dallas. I really want to come home. So, we will see if I get my wish. Term pregnancy for twins is 37 weeks. I cant imagine being pregnant for 4 more weeks.

We finally got me a mommy car. The cute white Cadillac sold to Cita! We contemplated between a suburban, tahoe or traverse...only Chevys! I chose traverse, for it's size. The inside is similar to a minivan set up with two bucket seats (for babies) plus a third row bench that folds flat for Hannah. We still have a DVD player and 2 sunroofs so Hannah was thrilled Its also really cute! I haven't driven since Oct 19th...kinda scary huh?

My bday was Monday and luke was here with me all day. We had pappadeux for dinner...yummy! Sarah, JD and Lara brought me goodies and a yummy bday bundt cake!

Hannah is coming for the weekend. I think they are going to medieval times on Saturday. She will love it!

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the calls, emails, texts, visits, bday cards, and Facebook msgs. We feel all your love and it wont be much longer. Please plan to celebrate with us in MArch (spring break?) when we are home and back to 'normal' with two babies at home!
